Luzdivina Amigo

Bierzo wine at its best
The land
Located in the region of El Bierzo, in the province of León, the Luzdivina Amigo winery is located in a privileged wine region. Its vineyards are distributed in small plots, known locally as “Leiros”, which cover various orientations and soil types.
From gentle hills with deep alluvial soils of granitic sands and clays, to steep slopes of mineral-rich slate. Each plot contributes unique characteristics to the grapes grown. The altitudes of the vineyards vary between 500 and 650 meters above sea level, and the vines, many of them between 60 and 130 years old, are living testimony to a viticultural tradition that dates back to 1894.
The winery mainly grows the native varieties Mencía and Godello, and has recovered old vines of Jerez (Palomino), Doña Blanca and Garnacha Tintorera. Work in the vineyard is done in the traditional way, using mules to plow the land, thus maintaining sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

The winery
Founded in 2002 by brothers Miguel Ángel and Javier, Bodega Luzdivina Amigo represents the fourth generation of a family dedicated to the cultivation of vines. Determined to honor the legacy of their ancestors, they restored the old family winery to vinify and market their own wines.
The winery’s name pays tribute to his mother, Luzdivina, and to all the women of the region whose hard work has been fundamental in local viticulture. Today, the winery remains a family affair, with the active participation of his parents, Miguel and Luzdivina.
Production focuses on white and red wines produced in various containers, from stainless steel tanks to French oak barrels of different sizes and foudres from the prestigious Stockinger cooperage, adapting the aging times according to the characteristics of each wine.

The wines
Baloiro Reserva:
This red wine, made from 100% Mencía grapes from vineyards between 60 and 90 years old in specific years, is aged for 10 months in French oak barrels. It reflects very well the sandy and clay soil, which provides structured and ripe grapes, good for long aging.
It presents aromas of black and red fruit, varietal and mineral expression on a background of blue flowers. The palate is silky and round with a velvety and vibrant passage.
Baloiro Blanco:
This white wine is made from Godello, Palomino and Doña Blanca grapes. It comes from deep alluvial soils and is what his grandparents used to make “to drink at home”.
Pale yellow in color with bright highlights, it is fresh, floral and sweet. It is sweet on the palate, aromatic and persistent.
